Meet the Visionary Behind Firstline
Anthony B. Miles entered the U.S. Navy’s Trident Submarine Force with perfect 20/20 vision. Two years aboard the USS Alaska (SSBN-732), Blue Crew, changed that. Stationed in the missile control center, he spent long hours deep below the ocean’s surface under harsh artificial lighting, staring at glowing control panels. The absence of natural light, relentless screen exposure, and high-stress environment triggered severe migraines and slowly eroded his sight. By the time he surfaced back to civilian life in 1991, he carried not only the title of service-disabled veteran, but also a new reliance on prescription glasses.
What felt like a personal loss soon became a powerful realization: if a submarine sailor could lose his vision beneath the ocean, how many other frontline workers were facing invisible threats to their eyes every day? That question became his mission.
Determined to transform his experience into protection for others, Anthony founded Firstline by Bon Vivant Safety Eyewear — a vision health tech brand that merges military-grade precision, medical insight, and modern design, with the goal of ensuring that no frontline worker ever suffers preventable vision loss.
