Anthony B. Miles entered the U.S. Navy’s Trident Nuclear Submarine Force with perfect 20/20 vision. Two years aboard the USS Alaska (SSBN-732), Blue Crew, changed that. Stationed in the missile control center, he spent long hours deep below the ocean’s surface under harsh artificial lighting, staring at glowing control panels. The absence of natural light, relentless screen exposure, and high-stress environment triggered severe migraines and slowly eroded his sight.
